Title (alt.):
Charivari. Empire, Orleaniste and Legitimiste Contend for the prize in an active Contest, Forgetting the common saying so frequently quoted, Riding for a fall. (Quatrain from the treasure of the Elysée.)
Description:
The cherubs are all racing for the same prize, forgetting the saying: "riding for a fall". This print shows a quatrain written by Philipon. As the writer correctly predicted, all three politicians who are shown in this image fighting for power, will eventually lose it, once Napoléon III is in power in 1851.
