Title (alt.):
Catherine M. Sugarman Letters
Inge Scholl Letters
Description:
Here we have a series of letters between Catherine Sugarman (Kate Hirsch) and Inge Scholl. Inche Scholl, along with her siblings Hans and Sophie, were core members of the White Rose student resistance movement in Nazi Germany. The White Rose was a student group that highly criticized the Nazi Party, especially their treatment of Jews on the Eastern front. The White Rose handed out pamphlets to the public. Hans and Sophie Scholl were arrested and tried for treason and executed by guillotine. Kate reaches out to Inge and discusses Hemlut Hirsch's story. These letters provide insight into the resistance movements that occured in Germany from the 1930s to the early 1940s. These letters and others found in the collection show the careful custodianship Kate had on her brother's legacy.
