Parade for Tito's birthday, probably taken from our room in the Hotel Macedonia, destroyed in 1963 earthquake. Excerpt from Barbara K Halpern letter: "The occasion of the children's parade was for Tito's birthday which is also the day of youth. In some ways it is similar to a pre-war children's May Day festival. Viewers stood six deep in a big ring around the square and people hung out of windows and stood on balconies all around. As the parade started Joel [Halpern] saw some photographers from local newspapers running around the marchers and taking pictures so he dashed down and get out there too. He took a great many pictures which I think you will enjoy. This parade was done very imaginatively and was most colorful. Participating were all the school children in Skopje (or a good part of them) so there were several thousand marchers."
