Nick wrote Letty a letter a few days ago, he doesn't have much to write about but he tries to write whenever he can because Letty likes to receive mail. One of the greatest battles of the war is going on at the moment, he can't write about it in his letter but Letty has probably been reading about it in the newspapers. Nick has realized how terrible this war is, and hopes it will be over soon. He has still not been paid in months, but once he is paid Nick will send things to Letty.
