Title (alt.):
- I don't know..... but it seems to me that this clock is running much faster than the horse!..... Charivari
Description:
Two men in a carriage look at a clock and comment that the clock moves faster than the horse. TAXIS. In 1857, the first meters were installed in the Paris taxis. Apparently, they did not run very reliably. According to research done by Provost, in 1861 the "Compagnie des Petites Voitures" offered a 20'000 francs reward if somebody would come up with a meter which could measure time and distance in combination.
