Letter from George Thompson, Wesleyan University, Middletown, Connecticut, to William Lloyd Garrison, 1864 July 22
Description:
George Thompson writes to William Lloyd Garrison before he leaves Middletown to visit the family of his son-in-law, F. W. Chesson. He also discusses the death of their friend John Hopper and his last meeting in Middletown where he was "made an L.L.D. amidst the acclamations of all present." Thompson then discusses his travel plans and says that if Garrison decides not to come join him, he will "get back to Boston & try to spend the 1st of August with" him.

Boston Public Library (Rare Books Department) manuscript composed in black ink on purple, lined paper. In the head- fore corner, "See Life of W.L.G. 4: 103." is written and underlined in a different handwriting and a different shade of black ink. Along the fore edge, under the date, "1864" has been added in pencil and in the tail- spine corner "V33,P71A" is also written in pencil.
