Hyde mansion in winter - 1930. 32 Cordis Street. Built by Francis Hyde about 1801. The Hydes were manufacturers of soap and candles on the site of the present St. Mary's Church. There used to be a large garden running downhill, including many fruit trees, where the birds noted by Timothy Sawyer included song sparrows, bluebirds, yellow warblers, thrushes, occasionally a scarlet tanager, and the cuckoo and sometimes woodcocks in the lower part of the garden.
