Notes (historical):
The Bridgewater Academy opened in 1790 as a private preparatory school on north end of the town's central square. The Academy building was rebuilt in 1822 on the southern end of the town square after a fire destroyed the original building. The 1822 building was replaced by this Italianate structure in 1868. The private Bridgewater Academy closed in 1875, after which the town rented the building for use as the public high school. The town purchased the building in 1920, and the high school remained there until 1952. The building now houses town offices.
