Title supplied by cataloger.
Sgt. Clifton Merriman (1893-1989) was a life-long Cambridge resident. He earned a Purple Heart medal serving in World War I and, after returning home, began working for the US Postal Service. He eventually became Assistant Postmaster, the first African-American man to serve in this position. The Central Square Post Office was designated the Clifton Merriman Post Office Building in 1992, but this commemorative frame is from a community celebration of that event held in 2008.
Digitized by the Cambridge Public Library in 2022.
