No;
Mueller is demonstrating the correct motion for an outfielder to follow when moving to the right. Mueller is lifting his left foot up in this slide as he begins to shift his entire body to the right. Mueller would need to shift his entire body to the right if a baseball was hit to his right side. When playing in the outfield, not every baseball is going to be hit directly at the outfielder. Because of this, Mueller needs to be prepared to shift his body to either the right or the left in order to field the baseball. He must be alert at all times and be able to judge the location of the baseball as it is hit into the outfield. From here, he can choose to move his body accordingly, whether it be to the left or right side of him.
Clarence Francis "Heinie" Mueller was born September 16, 1899, in Creve Coeur, Missouri. He was an American center and right fielder, playing for the St. Louis Cardinals, New York Giants, Boston Braves, and the St. Louis Browns. He played in 693 games and had a batting average of .282 over the course of his career.
There is very little information about the life of Heinie Mueller. The Society for American Baseball Research, which is the website where most of the information for players in these slides can be found, does not have a page for Mueller.
Leslie Mann identifies the player in slide 270 on page 50 of his manual titled the Fundamentals of Baseball. However, the player pictured above is a member of the St. Louis Cardinals, which is not a team Williams played for. Because of this, it appears there may be two differing versions of slide 270. I used facial recognition to determine that the actual player in this slide is Heinie Mueller.
Good condition;
This digital image is made from two separate digital scans; one scan of the lantern slide (reflective); one scan of the image (transparency); the two images were then combined in Photoshop to create the final image.
